Riwal delivers world’s first all-electric 43-metre boom

Riwal, the aerial work platform and telehandler rental and sales specialist, has sold the world’s first 43-metre all-electric boomlift.

Rental company Steiness Liftcenter ApS has bought the first JLG 1350SJP to be converted by Riwal from diesel to 100% electric.

More converted machines will be added to Riwal’s rental fleet and will be sold to other rental companies and end users.

The machine was launched during a customer event on 15 June 2018 held to celebrate Riwal’s 50th anniversary.

Riwal UK Country Manager Mick Ledden said: “Combining a large boom with full electric power is a major step forward in powered access.

“It’s great to see Riwal continuing to lead the market like this. I’m looking forward to supplying these ground-breaking machines to UK customers in the very near future.”

Danish company Steiness Liftcenter specialises in the re-rental of access equipment, telehandlers, and forklift trucks in Denmark and other Nordic countries.

Key features of the JLG 1350SJP include 43-metre working height and 24-metre horizontal outreach.

Following the conversion to all-electric power by Riwal’s technical team, led by Nico den Ouden, users have an excellent, sustainable solution for working safely and productively indoors and outdoors.

Noise levels generated by the all-electric boom lift are below 70 dB. The machine, which has a 400-volt battery charger, generates no carbon emissions when in operation.

Poul Steiness, owner of Steiness Liftcenter, said: “This boom is 100% electrically powered, which is clearly preferable because of low noise levels, no pollution and lower cost of operating.

“At the same time, it meets the growing demand for environmentally-friendly machines in the market.

“The machine can be used inside and outside on large construction sites, increasing utilisation times.

“Steiness Liftcenter wants to be a leader in green innovation on construction sites, and through our strong relations with Riwal Denmark, we wanted to be first mover on buying this new special unit from Riwal.”

Riwal Chief Executive Officer Norty Turner said: “Riwal’s mission is to deliver the best customer experience in the industry.

“The JLG 1350SJP Electric is an excellent example of how we translate this mission into practice.

“It is a sustainable alternative to diesel powered machines while maintaining all its features.

“We want to lead the industry into the future and innovations such as the 43-metre electric boom will help take us there.

“I would like to congratulate Steiness Liftcenter on the purchase of the world’s first unit.”
