Riwal has Talent! Paul shines with mechanic award win

Paul Talent Riwal Plant Mechanic 2019

Riwal UK plant mechanic Paul Talent has been named a star of the future in national awards that celebrate the plant hire industry’s top apprentices and trainees.

He has won a Level 2 College Award in the Construction Plant-hire Association’s (CPA) Stars of the Future Awards 2019.

More than 300 apprentices, family members, employers and college officials attended the award ceremony at the Heart of England Conference Centre in Fillongley near Coventry.

For Paul it was a vindication of his decision join powered access rental and sales specialist Riwal, aged 28, in 2017.

Beforehand, he had been a warehouse manager for a furniture company in Liverpool, responsible for eight staff.

But he wanted to start a new career with the chance to gain technical qualifications, so he became an apprentice plant mechanic at Riwal’s Wigan depot.

Paul said: “It was a big move. Being an apprentice, I was earning much less money and it was a bit like going back to school. But Riwal and my colleagues have been really supportive.”

Within weeks he was attending Myerscough College near Garstang, Lancashire, where his determination to succeed was quickly recognised.

He said: “I love my job, and I’ve learned so much. We work on some really big and interesting machines. Now I feel the sky’s the limit.

“My manager has talked about future plans for me. I want to move up the ladder and I feel I can do that with Riwal. It’s a company that’s going places.”

Paul, from Liverpool, will be taking his next step in his training with Riwal in September when he starts his NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance.

Marc Johnson, National Technical Manager for Riwal UK, said: “We’re delighted for Paul. He’s just the sort of colleague who thrives at Riwal.

“As a powered access innovator, our technical teams work on the most modern and capable machines in the world with standards underpinned by our unique approach to quality, the Riwal Way.

“We’re determined to offer the best training, associated with accredited qualifications, our industry has to offer, because that underpins the excellent customer service always strive to deliver.”
